SLIPPING AWAY ------ Mansun
Mansun were an English indie band formed in Chester in 1995. The band comprised vocalist/rhythm guitarist Paul Draper, bassist Stove King, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Dominic Chad, and drummer Andie Rathbone. They came to prominence in the mid-nineties British indie/ guitar-rock resurgence, despite pursuing their own path away from any of the emerging scenes.Mansun disbanded in May 2003. This was a culmination of band tensions which had seen one of the original members leave (Stove King). Disappointed by the poor reception of their 3rd album, the band folded with little fanfare of their passing.
Due to pressure from their fans, EMI released the posthumous “4th album”, Kleptomania, which was a three CD set containing rough recordings of tracks slated to be on the unfinished 4th album, b-sides and rarities... today's song was Mansun's last single, a great example of their magnificent music. Enjoy!

With a particular guitar sound that reminds a little of U2, this is the typical track that just will get better the more you listen to it!

THE HARDEST PART ------ Coldplay
"The Hardest Part" is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all four members of the band for their third album, X&Y. A piano-based ballad song, it begins with a two-note piano melody, followed with electric guitar lines, that accompanies a slow tempo drumming.
It was released on 3 April 2006 as the fourth single from X&Y. The song was released as a radio-only song on United Kingdom radio stations. It appeared on the United States Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and peaked at number 37.
The song was well received by critics. The track was complimented for its musical style: unbelievably uplifting, amazing, something that "just eases the pain all the time".

LOW ------ Coldplay
Q mag write from Martin about this song: "A turning point. We had this piece we'd written on tour in Zurich and I'd listened to it on my computer and think, That's a great thing. And then I was in San Diego, and just as I was leaving the hotel, I had this idea, so I went to the lobby piano and worked out these chords. And then we booked ourselves into a tiny rehearsal space and we all got such a buzz from playing that it made us realise we had gone wrong on the recordings of all the other songs. I realised last August that I was missing everyone else and Low was what brought us back together."
Low is indeed one of the most charming songs from the awesome X&Y, third studio album from Coldplay released the 6th of June of 2005. The album itself has been considered a landmark achievement of the band, topping many charts worldwide, including the United Kingdom and United States, the latter being their first. With accumulated sales of over 10 million units, X&Y is the best-selling album released in 2005 worldwide

SQUARE ONE ------ Coldplay
‘Square One’ is the opening track to Coldplay’s 2005 album, X&Y. It carries a distinct anthemic quality with a ‘building’ progressive sound.
The lyrics are just awesome, and the song usually served the band as the opening for their live concerts until Viva la Vida was released:

LUCKY MAN ------ The Verve
"Lucky Man" is a song by the rock band The Verve and is featured on their third album, Urban Hymns. It was released 24 November 1997 as the third single from the album, charting at #7 in the UK Singles Chart (see 1997 in British music). The song was also the band's second, and so far last Top 20 hit in the USA.
U2 frontman Bono recognized "Lucky Man" as one of six songs that he wished he had written from the last 20 years of music...
The UK version of the video was directed by Andy Baybutt and sees the band in the Thames Wharf complex; this is situated near Hammersmith, West London in post code W6 9HA. Richard Ashcroft sings the song whilst playing an acoustic guitar; the rest of the band look on. The Thames Wharf Complex designed by Sir Richard Rogers. The US version was shot in New York, featuring the band in an apartment and then travelling to a mountain top.

SPEED OF SOUND ------ Coldplay
"Speed of Sound" is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their third album, X&Y. Built around a piano riff, the song builds into a huge, synthesizer-heavy chorus. It was released on 23 May 2005 by Parlophone Records as the lead single from the album.
Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin admitted that the song was developed after the band had listened to English alternative rock singer Kate Bush. The song's drumbeat is similar to Bush's 1985 song "Running Up That Hill". Upon the song's release, it charted in the UK Singles Chart in the number two position. In the United States, it reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Speed of Sound" is a piano-based song. The song benefits from an insistently ornate keyboard riff and a busy but less-hummable chorus, in which the song builds into a huge drum beat and a synthesizer-heavy chorus, which also includes an upbeat tempo.
The lyrics in the song are cryptic; the ending lines of the third verse emphasize in belief and faith: "If you could see it then you’d understand/ah when you see it then you’ll understand," and "Some things you have to believe/others are puzzles puzzling me." The fourth verse in the second verse alludes to discovering your place in the world: "How long am I gonna stand/with my head stuck under the sand," and "If you never try then you’ll never know".

TALK ------ Coldplay
"Talk" is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay. Built around a riff from Kraftwerk's 1981 song "Computer Love", it was written by all members of the band for their third album, X&Y.
In the United States, the song entered at number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 and elsewhere in the world its success varied, peaking at number one in the Netherlands' Dutch Top 40. The song received positive reviews, with critics noting the music's sound and memorable lyrics. Both the song and its "Thin White Duke" remix were nominated for the 2007 Grammy Awards, the latter of which won in the category of Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
The song is built around a simple guitar lick by Jonny Buckland. The track includes a hypnotic pace, with Will Champion adding a metronomic beat to the drums. The song features a synthesizer hook notable from Kraftwerk's "Computer Love". It also adds a chiming note to more abrasive riffs during the breakdown near the end of the song.
The second verse in line four Martin sings about a trace of irony: "Or write a song nobody had sung/Or do something that's never been done." The third line of the third verse Martin alludes to fear, but changes to joy: "Tell me how do you feel?/Well I feel like they're talking in a language I don't speak/And they're talking it to me."The fifth verse Martin summarizes about an individual who is lost and trying to discover the unknown: "So you don't know where you're going/But you want to talk/And you feel like you're going where you've been before/You'll tell anyone who will listen but you feel ignored.
According to Josh Tyrangiel of Time magazine, the meaning to "Talk" are based on how Martin "wants to teach us how to feel better about ourselves, and his lessons have the moral superiority disguised as sensitivity that marked Bono's mighty mullet period." Tyrangiel interpreted the lyrics, "Are you lost or incomplete/ Do you feel like a puzzle, you can't find your missing piece/ Tell me how you feel", with Martin begging in the song.

CLOCKS ------ Coldplay
"Clocks" is a song by English alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. Built around a repeating piano riff, the song features cryptic lyrics of contrast and urgency themes. Several remixes of the track exist and its riff has been widely sampled. "Clocks" won Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammy Awards, and, to date, is one of Coldplay's most successful songs.
"Clocks" debuted to critical and commercial success. Most critics complimented on the song's piano line. The song was released in the United Kingdom as the third single from A Rush of Blood to the Head, and reached number nine in the UK Singles Chart. It was released in the United States as the second single and reached number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Clocks" is built around a repeating piano riff, and features a minimalist soundscape of drums and bass. Martin applied an ostinato and a descending scale on the piano chord progression, which switches from major to minor chords. The music of "Clocks" are also provided by synthesizers and a sparse string arrangement.
The song's lyrical themes include contrast, contradictions and urgency. Chris Martin sings of being in the state of "helplessness ... in a dysfunctional relationship he doesn't necessarily want to escape". The lyrics are cryptic; the ending lines of the second verse emphasize contradicting emotion: "Come out upon my seas/Cursed missed opportunities/Am I a part of the cure/Or am I part of the disease?". The song's title also "metaphorically alludes" to its lyrics, "pushing one to wonder about the world’s obsession with time while connecting it to the theory: make the best of it when we’re here, present and alive".

CRYSTAL BALL ------ Keane
"Crystal Ball" is a song performed and composed by English rock band Keane, and featured on their second studio album, Under the Iron Sea. The song was released on 21 August 2006 as the third single from the United Kingdom album version (see 2006 in British music). The song was co-written by a London teenager, Elijah Volkova. "Crystal Ball" was also released on 18 August 2006 in the Netherlands and peaked at #20 in both the Dutch Singles Chart and the UK Singles Chart.
Similarly to other Keane songs such as "Somewhere Only We Know", the song follows a quaver-note driven sound. Several effects, like the aforementioned distortion pisano and strings, are added through the song. The fading-in intro is often referred as a continuation to "The Iron Sea", and represented as an immediate returning to surface of the "Iron Sea". Vocals are introduced at 19 seconds and continue until fading on 3:04. Demo version included on the bonus DVD of the album would reprise the intro riff before the final.
Song's meaning
...That was a really scary for me, because I've always had lots to say, and lots of opinions whether right or wrong. We then ended up having a massive row about something a couple of days later and it came out of that that we were all feeling this sense of numbness, this feeling of kinda fading away as people. I struggled to find one last song to complete the album, and found I could not write. I was left looking around song directories written by the sheer desperates of London, thus explaining how I discovered Crystal Ball...
